about
A mighty Doom!
lyrics
In the frozen north, In the land of Trolls
High up in the mountains amongst the ice and snow
There dwelt the one, warrior born
Trollish Tyrant, Drunken Overlord!
There his quest began, His saga unfurled
To seek the mightiest of brews, To drink dry the whole world!
The plunder from his raids, No longer cast its spells
Consumed himself sober, From his drunken throne he fell
His journey begins...
His axe and flagon in hand!
In the search of ultimate booze
To conquer every land!
Southwards first to lands of men, Plumed and piked Holy Romans
Famed for their beercraft skills, Hefeweizens, Lagers, Pils
Smash through breweries, taverns, towns, Drinking, drinking, going down
No effect, sober haze, Eternal hungover rage!
Slavic lands to South and East, Prosit, Nazdrowe, Zivjeli!
Rakija Slivovitsa, On pije pivo I wodka!
Balkans, Baltics, Poles and Rus, Fell before his quest for booze
Consume, swallow, slosh and swill, So many dead, yet sober still!
Nothing in the Olde World remained, Its alcoholic stores were drained
Kingdoms smashed, castles torn down, He drank where others would have drowned
Still he was not drunk enough, His quest required stronger stuff
But where to sack? Where to sail? Where could be found the strongest ale??
He heard! Rumors from the East! Of drink and magik yeast!
‘Cross the steppes to the Great Wall! The Celestial Kingdom would fall!
Black powder, Alchemy, Were no match for his drunk fury
Scorpion wine, beer of rice, Strong enough, yet none sufficed
Art, Science, Philosophy, All he desired, the distillery
Teachings from ancient scribes, Smashed and broken, Ale or Die!!
Words of wisdom on deaf ears, Primordial need to drink beer
Dragon temples brought to dust, Engorge, consume, violence, lust
Nothing remained in his wake, Genocidal quest for drink
Conquered lands of Orient, Inebriated rage not spent
Over mountains down to jungle, intoxication from source fungal
Follow the path, cradle of life, nothing but desert and strife
Continue on where Kings remain, Ancient tombs and beer of grain
Tales of a New World, For the quest, westward sail!
Across! The Ocean's mighty waves! He sailed unto his fate!
His quest for drunkenness! Would lead unto his death!
Plunder upon the Spanish Main, New alcohol from sugar cane
Rum, syrup, liquor sweet, Distilled and emptied at his feet
Upwards on to land Central, Cervezas, Tequila
Agave juice, no equal, Pure pain, no recall…
Into the lands called 'Mericae, Kings of the IPA
Malt, Hops, so extreme, Waters pure from mountain streams
Singles, Doubles, Triples, Quad, Stronger, stronger, not enough!
Continents brought to heel, All for the quest for beer!!
Searched the world, nothing found, Northward sail, homeward bound
Emerald Isle found in the mist, Already hammered! Let’s get pissed!
On to the Scots, a wee quick halt, Whiskeys, Bourbons, Brandys, Malts
Engle-Saxons and their Ciders only enrage the drunken fighter!
Back to North, his Dragonship roamed
Returning with beers, liquor and gold
His Quest seemed failed, sober his fate
Smashing his plunder with bleary eyed hate
The liquid spills down, into his horn
A magic elixir intoxicately born
He raises his prize up to his eyes
The ultimate drink is realized!
He takes a swig, He forces it down!
The broth flows through, Victory is found!
Now so drunk, he cannot stand!
Poisonous elixir from his own hand!
Clogging filth, creeping through his veins!
Vomits up his life, the Troll dies in pain...

Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10 RJ

This album being played over the PA system at the museum where Salvador Dali's "The Persistence of Memory" is housed is what caused the faces of the clocks in the painting to melt. meeko

A very solid black metal album with a great use of orchestral elements that adds a good bit of atmosphere. The Tolkien influences and themes are a great bonus. 7/10 RJ

I will readily and openly admit I’m not a big death metal guy, but this album has such a perfect blend of death and black metal that it was basically love at first blast beat. It combines all my favorite aspects of death and black metal with basically none of the parts I don’t like, so I can’t help but recommend this one. It grabs you by the throat from the moment it starts and doesn’t stop till the end. Kirk Gauthier
